Seeking Board of Directors Candidates and Members to serve on the Nominating Committee
The Columbia Rural Electric Association (Columbia REA) seeks interested members for the
2020 Board of Directors election and members to serve on the Nominations Committee.
There is one board seat open for election from each district per year (three total).
- All interested members from Districts 1, 2 & 3 (visit our website at www.columbiarea.coop to find your district) who wish to be considered as a Board Member candidate should submit a one-page resume and letter of interest by Monday, January 13, 2020, addressed to the Columbia REA Nominating Committee, 2929 Melrose Street, Walla Walla, WA 99362. They can also be emailed to email@example.com . Per the cooperative’s bylaws, a member must make their full-time personal residence in the district they are applying, to be eligible for the Board.
- In addition, CREA is seeking members in good standing to serve on the Nominating Committee. Any member can be on the nominating committee and does not need to live on the co-op’s lines.
The Nominating Committee reviews and selects applicants who wish to run for the Board of Directors. The Committee generally meets two times. All members who wish to serve on the Nominating Committee must submit their name by Friday December 20th, 2019. A maximum of 12 members will be appointed to the committee by the Board of Directors per the Bylaws. The nominating committee will review the qualifications of all interested candidates and determine who will be on the ballot.
The Nominating Committee will be looking for Columbia REA members who have past experience serving on the boards of community, non-profit, or government organizations, and those willing to accept the responsibilities and obligations of a director, which include taking the time necessary to prepare for and take an active part in board meetings. Current and former Columbia REA directors are eligible for consideration. Qualified Columbia REA members also may be nominated by collecting 15 signatures from other members (electric account holders) in good standing and by submitting a completed Member Petition to the Nominating Committee no later than March 2, 2020.
All candidates with valid petitions, and all candidates selected by the committee, will be placed on the ballot for the April 2020 election. Board election results will be announced at the Annual Meeting on April 16th at the Marcus Whitman Hotel.
