Electric Water Heater Program

Columbia REA is promoting the installation of high efficiency electric water heating primarily in all new homes served by the cooperative. As part of that promotion, we’re offering an incentive on qualifying electric water heaters. For new or retrofit installations, co-op customers will receive a $200 credit on their utility bill for an installed unit. To be eligible for the credit, they must be a co-op member and the tank must be permanently installed at the account where they receive the co-op’s electric service. Any electric water heater having an “Energy Factor” rating of .94 and a lifetime “no leak” warranty will qualify for the co-op’s promotion. The standard 50 gallon Marathon water heater meets this criteria. Given the Marathon electric water heater’s superb design and the highest efficiency rating, Columbia REA will be working in collaboration with Marathon Water Heaters (a subsidiary of Rheem) to promote the Marathon water heater as the product of choice.

While the standard 50 gallon Marathon unit costs around $535 plus sales tax (a little more than the conventional electric water), that’s comparatively less than the cost to purchase and install a gas water heating unit. Clearly, this product is a good value for the customer and good value for the co-op. It’s also good value for builders and developers building on our system since it’ll add to their competitive advantage.
